The new exoplanet discovered by the Spanish Research Council is one of the smallest exoplanets that has been found and is one of a handful of "super-Earth's" discovered that have a mass of 1 to 10 times that of Earth. This new Earth-like exoplanet has a mass of 5 times that of our own planet. As of early June 2008 a total of nearly three-hundred exoplanets had been discovered with the number expected to increase to around three-hundred forty in the near future as several new exoplanet discoveries are verified. More exoplanet detections are probable thoughout the rest of 2008 due to the number of astronomers now searching for new exoplanets with improved and more-advanced methods of detection. Check out the latest news below for recent announcements of new exoplanet discoveries using various planet detection models and techniques.
