A new extrasolar system was discovered by utilizing 11 observatories from around the world plus input from several amateur astronomers. This other planetary system appears to be somewhat like our own solar system in that it contains planets with weights and masses similar to Jupiter and Saturn. This is the 25th new planetary system discovered that contains multiple planets. As of June 2008 a total of almost three-hundred extrasolar planets had been detected and confirmed with the number soon to increase to around three-hundred forty as many new extrasolar planet discoveries get verified. Even more detections are probable during the last half of 2008 due to the number of astronomers now searching for new extrasolar systems with improved and more-advanced detection techniques. Check out the latest news below for recent announcements new extrasolar system discoveries using the method known as gravitational microlensing along with other planet detection techniques.
